How we choose topics

We start from questions real people ask in public forums and in search. We group similar questions so one guide answers them properly, rather than publishing many thin pages.

How we write and check

  • Claims about symptoms, testing windows, transmission and urgent warning signs are checked against public health sources, mainly the CDC (including its STI Treatment Guidelines) and the World Health Organization.
  • Every guide lists its sources.
  • We don't give medicine doses. Treatment is described in general terms only, and we tell you to see a clinician.
  • Our guides are not reviewed by a clinician. We say so plainly and never label a page "medically reviewed".

Language

We write without judgement. STIs are common and treatable or manageable, and our guides are for everyone, whatever their gender or sexual orientation.

Corrections

When public guidance changes or a reader reports an error, we correct the guide and update its date. Report a mistake.
